;e Old Schoolhouse® Lab Product Reviews
Compiled and edited by Kate Kessler
Hello again! Is it already March?! I like meeting up like this every month and
hope you do too. Welcome to the
newest issue of ;e Old School-
house® Magazine’s Lab!
We are starting to get into our
groove here with our monthly team
(though truth be told I was late getting this in—so sorry, editors!). I
like the fact that each month has
a di;erent theme and that we can
focus our reviews better now. We
have quite a mixture of great products to share with you this time.
Gardening is up on stage, along
with geography and literature—
both books and curricula.
I will be mixing it up below a bit
and adding in some of our excellent Homeschool Crew team reviews from now on. ;is month I
am sharing just one, but in future
months there will be more. ;e
Crew is our team of homeschooling families who blog their news
and reviews for the bene;t of all
their readers. I can’t wait to share
their reviews with you!
Finally, here is a reminder that
we have more than ;ve thousand
reviews on our own website to assist you as you search for curricula.
To ;nd the home page, just click on
the Resources drop-down box at

With all the “business” done, let’s
get on to the reviews!

Are you looking for extra activities to
include in your geography studies? Do
you have trouble coming up with ideas
to use for teaching geography? ;en
you may be interested in Hands-On
Geography. ;is 142-page book written by Maggie S. Hogan is published by
Bright Idea Press.
According to the introduction, study
of geography is o;en neglected, and as a
nation we are geographically illiterate. I
would have to agree with this; I have acquired most of my knowledge of geography as an adult as a result of teaching my
own children and traveling. I want my
kids to have a good grasp of the world
that God has given us to enjoy, and
Hands-On Geography has a lot of fun
activities to help it become real to them.
Hands-On Geography is not intended
to be used straight through; you pick
and choose which activities you use
when. ;e book contains reproducible
maps, directions, and cards for home-
made games, and projects for making
and using di;erent types of maps. You
can create a passport or take a journey
with Joseph using a map and your Bi-
ble. ;is book has so much—chapters
include “Missionary and Geography,”
“Genealogy and Geography,” “Nature
and Geography,” “Language Arts and
Geography,” and “History and Geogra-
phy”—to name a few.
