Afew years back, I heard Pam Tebow, mother of famed quar- terback and now baseball player Tim Tebow, speaking
at an event. “What’s your mission?” she
asked. She explained that if you’re a mom
with young children, your mission is to be
a mom. It’s an important role. There is great
value in it.
While raising kids who have a Biblical
worldview and shaping their eternal desti-nies is no small feat, we know that women
are multifaceted and great at multitask-ing. Sometimes God puts something additional on our hearts to do—other ways to
serve Him.
The Bible is filled with examples of wom-
en who worked hard. In Acts 16, we’re in-
troduced to a woman named Lydia. The city
in which she was living was known for its
skilled merchants. One of those skills was
dying cloth. Lydia had learned this skill
and used it to start a business. Ruth was an-
other diligent worker. She continued from
morning to evening in the fields (Ruth 2: 7,
17). And in Proverbs, we learn about the
Proverbs 31 woman who invested and reinvested her money and made and sold linen
garments. The Bible gives us examples of
women who worked to benefit their families.
Determine Your Talents
If you need to supplement your family’s
household income, the first thing to do is
to determine your talents. Are there things
you are passionate about that might gener-
ate an income? I have a friend who loves to
sew. She holds sewing classes, makes and
sells homemade items, and even makes
gifts for birthday parties and Christmas
exchanges. She’s generating some income
and saving her family money on store-
bought gifts. It all adds up! I have another
friend who enjoys baking and has built a
business creating beautiful cakes. Another
friend of mine is gifted in cleaning and
organizing. She cleans several homes and
businesses each week. Another creative
friend is a photographer, who has grown
a business taking pictures during the first
moments after a baby is born. Many of my
friends are teaching once a week at our lo-
cal homeschool co-op, where parents pay
them directly for each class. There are still
other moms who are babysitters, virtual as-
sistants, or authors.
