TOS: What is GATE’s mission?
Pamela: Our mission is to equalize access, so a homeschool kid doesn’t have
any disadvantage compared to a kid in
an expensive private, public or parochial
school. Whether you're a first generation
student like me, or someone whose parents
went to college, (the application process)
is constantly changing. Last year the SAT
changed and the FAFSA deadline changed.
Without experts who are constantly able
to interact with your inbox, sending you
that information, giving you that context,
you’re going to be spending more for tuition. Once somebody has enrolled, GATE
supports them from tablets, laptops and
desktops. We even have a mobile app for
test prep on iOS and Android your kids can
download now called GATE to the SAT/
ACT. I’m so glad that I have a digital tool
even to help my own daughter as she’s going through this process. It’s overwhelming,
and that’s why we make this step by step,
logical and adaptive. There’s no sales pitch.
Just enroll in the free trial now, and let us
send you a bunch of free content. We also
invite everyone to join us on social media.
Our Facebook group is GATE for Homeschool Parents of College-Bound Teens.
We would love to have people connect with
us there as well as opting in on our website.
Hey, we even have a free trial right now just
for you—go to www.GateForHomeschool
.com/trial and get started at absolutely zero
cost or risk.
TOS: What are the four P’s that help kids
find direction?
Pamela: Imagine a triangle, and there are
Ps at each tip. The first is passion. What is
the student passionate about? I say to kids,
“Walk into Barnes and Noble. What section
do you go to?” If you’re going to the sports
section instead of the psychology section,
maybe you should be looking at kinesiology as opposed to the social sciences. Then
think about proficiency, which is the second
“P.” You have to be good at the things you’re
passionate about. What are your grades?
What comes naturally? And the one people
tend to forget is profitability—to be able to
monetize the thing you’re passionate about
and proficient at. Once you get those three
Ps together, you draw a star in the middle
of the triangle, and that’s purpose—the
fourth “P.” I believe in a purpose-driven life.
When we’re aligned with our higher good,
with what perhaps was our intended reason
for being on this planet, the college major
needs to be in service to that purpose.
TOS: Anything else?
Pamela: Now is a really important time
for any parent of ninth through twelfth
graders to look at gateforhomeschool
.com, not just for the proven results we’ve
had for thousands of students, but to consider entering their best email there. We
are inviting them to be part of a community, to help us equalize access, so homeschoolers don’t have any disadvantages.
We’re helping them frame
admissions essays that
work because we’ve done
this thousands of times.
