In;Luke;6: 39,;our;Lord;spoke;the;follow-
ing parable: “Can the blind lead the blind?
shall they not both fall into the ditch?” I
believe this is the sad state of the church
today with regard to the issue of Chris-
tians in the public schools. With the ex-
plosive growth of home education of the
last twenty years and all of the debate over
why we are losing the vast majority of our
churched young people after they gradu-
ate from high school, it is increasingly
difficult;to;say;that;pastors;and;ministry
leaders are blind to the many dangers in
the public schools. 7 Nevertheless, it could
be argued that ministers are blind to the
futility;of;their;weekly;age-segregate;min-
istry efforts against the massively superior
time;allocation;of;the;public;schools’;in-
doctrination machine. It is no accident
that;Jesus’;explanation;of;His;aforemen-
tioned parable, in the very next verse,
Luke;6: 40,;reads:;“A disciple is not above
his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly
trained will be like his teacher” (NKJV). 8
The Lord once used dirt and saliva to
open;a;blind;man’s;eyes;;may;He;use;our
message to bring light to the church in
America.
Homeschool Evangelism
“Many years ago there was an Emper-
or so exceedingly fond of new clothes
that he spent all his money on being
well dressed,” begins the beloved tale
by Hans Christian Andersen about two
weavers who promise an Emperor a suit
made of a cloth invisible to the unedu-
cated,;to;the;“unusually;stupid.”;When
the Emperor parades himself before his
subjects, nobody will admit to not see-
ing the new clothes, except a small child
who;tells;his;father,;“But;he;hasn’t;got
anything on.” The father tells another
person, who in turn tells another, until
the;whole;town;cried;out;at;last,;“But;he
hasn’t;got;anything;on!”;The;story;ends
thus: “The Emperor shivered, for he sus-
pected;they;were;right.;But;he;thought,
‘This;procession;has;got;to;go;on.’;So;he
walked;more;proudly;than;ever,;as;his
noblemen;held;high;the;train;that;wasn’t
there;at;all.”
The public school system in America
is;an;embarrassingly;naked;emperor;who
keeps;spending;his;subject’s;dwindling
resources in order to perpetuate his in-
sane, irrational, and stupid race for the
top of the ineptitude charts—a pursuit
that is leaving every child left behind;
a system that has stripped a once great
nation of all of its former glory. It most
certainly;does;not;take;a;village;to;raise;a
child,;but;perhaps;it;will;take;the;witness
of a handful of home-educated children
to transform a neighborhood, a church,
and a nation.
May God bless the Christian home-school movement.
