stem from the foundation include the
continued;presence;of;primitive;reflexes,
poor;pencil;grip,;and;unstable;eye;move-ments.;A;child;with;a;poor;pencil;grip
might;have;the;continued;presence;of;a
palmar;reflex;so;that;simple;grasping;of
objects;is;immature.;Eye;movements;af-fect;academics.;Inhibition;of;the;primi-tive;reflexes;stimulates;development;of
eye movements that are necessary for
reading;and;writing.;God;has;created;us
in;a;marvelous;manner!
Although;we;are;wonderfully;created,
a;number;of;things;related;to;pregnancy,
birth,;or;trauma;may;be;contributors;to
developmental;delay;at;the;foundation.
Stress;during;pregnancy,;complications
of;any;sort,;birth;trauma,;caesarian;de-liveries,;cord;around;the;neck,;lack;of;ox-ygen;to;the;newborn,;premature;births,
a;fall,;an;automobile;accident—
any;trau-ma;to;the;body;can;cause;delay;in;devel-opment;or;a;reversion;to;foundational
(brain;stem);functions;that;we;rely;on;for
survival.
As parents investigate intervention
programs;for;their;children,;an;under-
standing;of;the;development;of;the;cen-
tral;nervous;system;and;an;awareness;of
the specific areas various intervention
programs;target;can;help;with;decision
making.;“Level;three”;(cortex);interven-
tions include cognitive training, tutor-
ing,;reasoning,;logic,;and;learning;skills.
“Level two” (midbrain-cerebellum) in-
terventions;include;motor;training,;re-
petitive movements, balance exercises,
and;sensory;integration.;If;“level;three”
and;“level;two”;both;show;dysfunction,
look;deeper.;Foundational;intervention
includes slow movements of the body
and/or;head;and;slow,;deliberate;imita-
tions of infant-type movements, and
should take less than ten minutes per
day.;If;you;suspect;the;root;of;your;child’s
difficulties may be at “level one,” seek
foundational;intervention.
When;I;came;to;understand;how;God
marvelously;created;the;human;central
nervous system, it made sense to me
that;when;we;look;at;behavioral;and;aca-demic;difficulties,;we;should;understand
and;pursue;intervention;according;to;the
plan;of;development;that;our;Creator;so
wonderfully established. My daughter
blossomed when we finally stimulated
development;at;the;foundation.;I;believe
when;we;follow;the;plan;that;our;Cre-ator;established;we;have;greater;hope;of
change;for;our;children;who;struggle.
