When I began to
research Trail Guide
to Learning from
Geography Matters, I
knew I had found the
curriculum for us.
there were some successes and some failures, the biggest failure being the classical approach—it just wasn’t us.
Last year we were introduced to a fabulous curriculum that embraces the teachings of Ruth Beechick and uses literature
as a base. When I began to research Trail
Guide to Learning from Geography Matters, I knew I had found the curriculum
for us. It was perfect! We use this curriculum for a large age range; we are all
learning the same thing at the same time,
and therefore I avoid the need for a lot
of planning time since I plan and print
schoolwork for everyone at once.
Instead of being tied to a bunch of
textbooks each day, we gather together
and read about the early explorers who
helped grow this great nation. All of
our subjects revolve around our litera-
ture, making each part of our school day
meaningful.
School time is an
adventure, something we
talk about long after the
books close.
I regret the fact that I let my perception
of homeschooling steal from me several
precious years with my older children. I
also know that homeschooling from the
beginning would have been easier than
diving in with four at once (with a toddler and a nursing child to boot!); perhaps the Lord was working to cement
my conviction to homeschool. Whatever
the reasons, I am thankful that we are
homeschooling now. These last few years
haven’t always been easy, but they have
been a huge blessing, and I don’t regret
one moment.
