138 Finishing the Race
By Kenton Sena
Lord God, Creator of the universe,
By Your command the planets spin,
The sun revolves, the stars maintain
Their twinkling scintillations bright.
Lord, Who just as mightily
Created all the earth—the land
And sea—and populated it
With animals of every kind:
The birds of flight to rule the air
To dazzle with their colors, songs;
The beasts of earth to walk with man,
To follow him and work his will;
The insects myriad to creep;
The fish and whales to swim in sea;
By word of mouth created these
The King of all the Universe.
O Lord, my God, Who me has made,
From dust I came, to dust I go.
Yet I, this speck of dust, You love—
Such that You sent Your Son to save
Both me and my sin-mortal kin,
And made me, by the Blood of Christ,
An heir of Heaven, throne of God.
O God, You care so much for me,
That I presume to beg of You
But guidance only, as I seek
The future of my earthly life,
And choose my home four years to come.
I must choose now, amid the whirr,
A vortex swirls, surrounds me, is
Composed of winds of choices I
Must make, decide, consider, do!
My life so crazy has become,
That I no longer have the peace
That all things work together well,
And You are in control of all;
And see this mess I’ve made myself.
Lord God, You see the choices here,
And those which I do not see yet.
Show me, O God, what choice to make,
So that my choice will honor You.
And help me grow closer to Christ,
And make an impact on the world.
While answering my call to work,
I cannot manage vortices:
They far exceed my human might.
Surrender all I unto You,
And rest assured that You will bring
All things to work together well,
And place me where I need to go.
I trust You with my life to come;
Lord, I thank You ten thousand times!
Praise ye the Lord, for He is good!
