other options for their learning adventures.
Racing has taken us to new places such as
Oklahoma and Tennessee and has provided
opportunities for geography, math, science
and more. As a family we work as a unit,
experiencing life, and learning together.
Through their racing experiences, the
boys have learned that there is a process to
go through for safety: 5-point harness, fire
suit and shoes, helmet, neck brace, and arm
restraints. They have also learned lots of
factors can affect the outcome of the race:
reaction time, weather, preparation of the
track, etc. They are continually learning
new abilities to face challenges, such as mechanical failures, and to do what is necessary to get back on the track!
Racing is a lot like life; it takes consistency, determination, and perseverance to
reach your goals and dreams. Our children
are learning that setbacks happen in life.
Our goal, as parents, is to encourage their
learning through exploration which we believe gives them the tools and the confidence needed to carry them through life.
“For I know the plans I have for you declares
the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm
you, plans to give you hope and a future”
(Jeremiah 29:11NIV). 1
No matter what career path our children
The Winner’s Circle
end up on, all these lessons will prove to
be invaluable. For me, and hopefully our
children, the family time and memories
will be cherished for a lifetime.
Getting to the winner’s circle isn’t easy but,
as you can imagine, it is very exciting. Carson and Collin have each had their turn in
the winner’s circle at various events. They
have even raced each other in the final a few
times—that’s tough on this mama! Regardless of the outcome of any race, we stress
the importance of always doing their best
and never giving up.
With every pass down the track, lessons are learned, and it puts them closer to
achieving their goals.
Kim Russell, and husband Curtis, live in
Texas, have four children (two still at home
and two grown) and two grandkids. Kim still
considers herself a “newbie” in home education, but has thoroughly enjoyed the process
and is dedicated to it for the long haul. She
enjoys reading, photography, sweet tea, and
dark chocolate! We invite you to follow our
