After School Fun
Our learning doesn’t stop after school ends,
but we transition into activities that don’t
use any crayons, books, or pencils. This way
Owen can safely join us again.
We spend a lot of time outside, enjoying
our farm and the animals. The kids climb
the stacked hay bales, create forts under the
clothesline, and try to skip rocks.
When my husband is home, we often take
school on the road. The whole family loads
up our short school bus and explores Eastern
Washington. On the road we play car games,
sing songs, and talk about the things we see.
More than Books
Before dealing with Pica, learning and
books were too intertwined in my mind. I
wouldn’t have counted watching a history
documentary or playing a letter-based app
as actual “school.” But, my kids are all learning, and they enjoy life in our homeschool.
It’s amazing how the Lord can take something like Pica and use it to transform a
family. He really does use all things for
good, even if we don’t see how at the time.
I’m thankful for all that Owen’s disabilities
have taught us.
