key events that led to the wonderful country we know today. Through this we wanted
them to learn the importance of protecting
this special country and the freedoms that
we all share.
TOS: If you could travel in time, like your
character, but could only choose one event
in American history to visit, which one
would it be and why?
Rush and Kathryn: That is a challenging question because there are so many
incredible events in our history. We were
recently in New England during the winter
months, and there was a significant snow
storm. We thought about what it must have
been like for the early Pilgrims and Americans when they first arrived, facing such
difficult elements with no modern-day
luxuries. We would very much like to travel
back in time to the first arrival of the Mayflower to see how they survived and thrived
to establish the country we cherish today.
TOS: Please tell us the “how” behind this
series. Who writes the books? Did you work
together as a couple to create the series?
Rush and Kathryn: We personally
write the books with the assistance of several incredible historic researchers and fact
checkers. We put our heart and soul into
the books because we want to make sure
that they personally connect with the reader. We write, re-write, and write again until we feel that the perfect message and tone
is carried through every chapter. It takes a
great deal of focused time and effort, but
the reward is simply incredible: to know
young people across the country are enjoying reading and enjoying American history.
The idea started through discussions
on a balcony during a Christmas vacation.
Kathryn said to Rush, “You love this country. Why don’t you carry that message beyond the radio to the younger generations?
Instead of just telling them facts that they
learn for a short period time and forget,
why don’t you involve them and have them
be a part of the story through time travel.”
Rush absolutely loved the idea of connecting the generations, primarily his adult audience and their grandchildren or children
through American pride.
TOS: Where will you take your book series? How far into current American history will you take Rush Revere?
The reward is simply incredible: to know
young people across the country are enjoying
reading and enjoying American history.
