why the rulers fought so hard to keep it
out of Korea. Though nothing descriptive
is shown, because this story does involve
Robert’s martyrdom, I recommend it be
viewed only with older elementary stu-
dents and not the very young. The DVD
comes with a special documentary to help
parents and teachers learn more about
Robert’s story. It also comes with an in-
credible downloadable study guide that
helps families dig deeply into the story and
the truths from Scripture that it shares. It
also includes stories from North Korea to-
day and shows how Christians there still
risk death by owning a Bible or even say-
ing the word “prayer.”
What strikes me most about Robert’s
story is seeing how God used an ordinary
man to do extraordinary things. Robert
struggled with confusion, grief, and loss
the same as each of us do. Yet in the end,
by God’s grace, he was able to mirror with
his actions Jesus’ prayer from the cross.
“Father, forgive them; for they know not
what they do” (Luke 23: 34 KJV). Robert’s
death seemed like a defeat until his story
was discovered and shared years later,
much as Jesus’ death appeared a defeat
until He showed us the rest of the story
on Resurrection Sunday. May God give us
each the grace and the faith to wait with
hope until God writes the final chapter of
each of our stories.

News for Fans of
Torchlighters
Releasing in 2017, the next Torchlight-er episode will feature the adventurous story of America’s first missionary,
Adoniram Judson and his wife, Ann.
Within two weeks of their marriage,
the young couple set out on the long
journey to India, only to learn upon arrival that they were not welcome there.
This setback would be one of many
the Judsons would face in their ultimate calling to Burma. Torchlighters
will share the powerful story of their
first convert and the miraculous way
God protected their translation work
through persecution, war, and imprisonment. Through their story, families
learn that God uses the humble and
calls each of us to be fishers of men.
May God give us each the grace and the faith to wait with hope
until God writes the final chapter of each of our stories.
