TOS: I see you offer other styles of piano lessons as well. Could you tell us more
Willie: Being a professional musician,
I’ve played in everything from classical
music settings to African bands. I’ve had
the opportunity to play everything from
jazz to reggae and most styles in between. I wanted to share this knowledge
with my students.
Piano With Willie.com is my main website, [where] I share lessons in jazz, rock,
funk, gospel, Latin, classical, and blues
piano. In fact, after about one to two years
of HomeSchoolPiano, students are ready
to make the leap to Piano With Willie.com
to further their musical studies.
TOS: You have an engaging and friendly
way of teaching. Your love of music and
your desire to share it with others definitely shines through. If you could tell new
musicians one thing, what would it be?
Willie: As cliché as it sounds . . . be patient. With our “instant gratification” culture, I think one thing that is getting lost is
our ability to be patient with the time that
is required to really learn a skill. Piano
takes years to learn, but it is so rewarding.
My son, Connor, and I have taken karate together for the past three years. We’re
working toward achieving our black belt,
but it is still another year away. Working
at something for four years takes dedication, but it is so worth it in the end.
So my advice is to be patient because
there will be ups and downs, but those
that stick to it will be rewarded!
Thanks so much to you, Heather and
TOS, for the opportunity to share my
thoughts with you and your readers!
