There’s just something special about starting a new school year. Although I’m writing this at;the;beginning;of;summer,;let
me paint a picture for you of the first day
of school at our house.
Usually the week leading up to the
kick-off day is filled with excitement and
anticipation. You can taste the possibilities in the air. My wife has been busily
and buying school supplies.
The night before the first day of school
is like the day before a big game. The kids
imagine a picture-perfect beginning to a
picture-perfect school year.
The first morning starts out good as
wife has exercised, showered, and had
some time with God. Then the announce-
That’s when I scoot off to my basement
office to leave Team Wilson alone to start
get lost in all the quietness and am sur-
and it’s already time for lunch.
I trot upstairs and see my wife sitting
quietly in our green chair in the living
room. Her gaze is vacant—as though
maybe an alien snatched her brain while
I worked. Without looking up she says
There you go. Welcome to the first day
