knowledge;we’ve;acquired,;a;putting;to-gether of the pieces into a comprehensive
whole. In this way, understanding moves
us into the dialectic phase of wisdom,
wherein we can debate how things are
categorized;and;how;they;are;connected.
It is here, too, that we begin to see how
the subjects interrelate.
Wisdom, then, includes the acquir-ing;of;knowledge,;the;categorization;of
understanding, and application of that
knowledge;and;understanding;to;a;new
level of study or a new situation. There is
a humility in wisdom that understands
that knowledge-getting is incomplete,
understanding is often pock-marked,
and experience is not as multi-faceted
a teacher as we would hope. The truly
wise;know;that;they;never;have;all;of;the
facts, never fully grasp all of the nuances
of;a;situation,;and;yet;must;act;or;speak
even with incomplete information. This,
again, is where the fear of the Lord is the
beginning and end of wisdom; we act in
obedience with wisdom, in humble reliance on God to bring about His results,
in His timing, and for His purposes.
We;can;use;the;scientific;method;to
know;that;tilling;the;ground;is;important
to growing crops. Having good soil is
essential to a successful harvest. We
plant. We water. And we wait. It is God
who gives the increase ( 1 Corinthians
3: 7).;As;much;as;we;search;out;the;things
of God, there may always be things that
He;keeps;concealed;from;us.
And so it goes with the training up of
our children. We cannot affect the outcome of training their minds, though we
work;toward;a;specific;goal.;How;we;ap-proach loving the Lord with our minds
affects much of what we do in the discipleship of our children.
Two examples from the realm of science are evolution and heliocentrism.
Evolution starts with a rejection of God
and;a;complete;trust;in;man’s;wisdom;to
understand the world around us. The
“molecules-to-man”;theory;of;evolution
asserts falsely that the wisdom of a man,
namely Charles Darwin, trumps the revealed truth of God regarding the study
of origins. It is not ignorance to start with
the fear of God and move forward from
there. It is arrogance, rebellion, and fool-ishness;to;try;to;figure;things;out;with-out God. “The fool hath said in his heart,
There is no God” (Psalms 14: 1).
What is true in the study of evolution
can;be;called;“micro-evolution,”;involv-ing environmental adaptation or mutation, even damage. None of these require
(
as;does;“molecules-to-man”);new;infor-mation to be introduced into a species
for its survival to be perpetuated. The
irreducible complexity of an eyeball, let
alone an entire human being, requires
too;much;new;information;to;make;the
leap from an amoeba by random chance.
Heliocentrism as it relates to the physical arrangement of our solar system was
rejected for millennia as going against the
plain;teaching;of;the;Bible.;If;you;get;up
early,;you;can;watch;the;sun;“come;up.”;If
you stay up late enough, you can watch it
