It’s easy to let art slide off the schedule because we are too busy with other subjects. However, art can greatly enhance your homeschooling with surprisingly little extra effort, even if you don’t hink you are particularly talented in the artistic realm. A simple drawing program is all you need to learn the basics along with your children. Set aside a regular time in your routine to concentrate on those skills, and you might be surprised by just how much you can ac- complish with a short amount of focused attention. Remember to include art appreciation and art his- tory as well, even with young children. Select an artist or a time period and learn about some of the charac- teristics of that artist’s style or the trend in the artistic movement. Consider what was going on in history at hat time. Studying artists can draw attention to vari- ous aspects of their culture that will add dimension to your study of history. Whether integrating art into your studies or giving your budding artists opportunities to bloom, keep an eye out for creative ways to include art in your homeschooling day.
